• Apron Expansion - Significant expansion of the Aircraft Parking Apron will be required to facilitate demand. It is estimated that an additional 50,000 square yards of pavement will be required in short term to handle existing demand projections. FAA AIP funds have been secured to facilitate the expansion program. Construction is slated for completion in October 2007.
• T-Hangar Expansion - this project will add nearly 50 new t-hangar units to the airport's inventory. A long waiting list for this type of facility exists. Project funding is being jointly provided by the Authority and the Florida Department of Transportation. The project is on track for completion in March 2008.
• Taxiway “B” Southern Phase - this project would complete the only complete parallel taxiway associated with Primary Runway 13/31. The project is preparing Environmental Permitting Applications for submittal relative to this effort as it has significant intrusion into the adjacent saltwater tidal marsh area. Estimated cost is in excess of $5.0 million to complete construction of the 1,400LF taxiway section. Estimate permitting to b completed within approximately 18 months with construction facilitated using FAA AIP dollars as appropriate.
• Multi-Modal transportation Facility - the physical limitations surrounding the development of the airport precludes easy expansion of landside facilities support of unprecedented growth. Community and Airport planners have advocated the development of a multi-use transportation facility to address demand. The proposed 50,000 sq. ft. facility would accommodate aviation, rail and all surface vehicle demands in a facility that would eliminate the costly duplication of infrastructure otherwise required for each transportation mode. Estimated total cost is projected to approach $20 million. The lead community agency (the Airport Authority) is pursuing State grants to start the facility. The likelihood of a federal funding requirement is significant if the innovative approach to regional transportation is to be realized.
